Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
