Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
