Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the closing game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest players around the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
