Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he enjoyed taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he played extensive hours and don’t win most times. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus more on poker.
The definite advancement in his abilities happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would often challenge each other. Howard was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
He also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the greatest female players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
