Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
