Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
