Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
