Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
