I have been betting poker now for about 5 years, I have played cards my entire life starting with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various types of Brag and general random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so eloquently called, card on head casino game. I used to usually win, whatever casino game we were playing and even though I liked to call it skill, it was incredibly difficult to justify considering the randomness of the games we were playing, so I was pleased to accept I was having a protracted run of good fortune.
Then came Poker, or more importantly Holdem Poker, made popular by a group of Texas card players in the 60’s and since developed into one of the biggest card phenomena ever experienced. Poker is absolutely the new black, it is uber cool with numerous of the world’s top celebs racing to have their name associated with it. Just a quick flick via the TV channels these days and you’ll be able to not escape from poker, and obviously there is the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all rolled into one for each and every individual player.
So with all of this new discovered recognition, with so numerous Tv programmes dedicated to poker, and magazine and book shelves loaded up with high quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are people going to understand that this game is all about position!?
Perhaps I need to not have so worked up about this, after all the much more individuals who wrestle with the subtle techniques and strategies needed for winning consistently at Texas holdem, the much better it really is for everyone else, correct? I mean, if they can not be bothered to read all of the readily available information about why placement is so essential, why must we bother? We should just be glad there’s an additional fish at the table!
It’s true, we should not reward inactivity with guidance and aid. On the other hand, I liken this to a helpful game of football. Naturally the stakes aren’t so superior, but when you notice a player struggling, you aid them, offer them a few advice, ultimately showing them a method to get pleasure from, love and be grateful for the game as much as you. I am askin all house players to do the same thing with their poker friends who haven’t quite got a handle on the nuances of betting position. Aid them to grow their respect for the game. Of course, don’t attempt to try this one in your neighborhood gambling den, the sharks will not take pleasure in you instructing their lunch how to swim!
