Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
